Dear Florida Strawberry Lover,
It seems like everyone wants strawberries in February. Can you blame them? Though it’s cold and dreary in many parts of the country, February is fabulous in Florida—so fabulous that we’re celebrating all month long. February is, without a doubt, Fabulous Florida Strawberry Month.
This is the peak of our season. The 80 or so strawberry farmers who make up the non-profit Florida Strawberry Growers Association are frantically harvesting the winter crop. They work ‘round the clock this time of year to bring our beautiful berries to market. The berries are rushed to grocery stores in refrigerated trucks just hours after picking and packing.
Strawberries, especially chocolate-dipped berries, are perfect for Valentine’s Day gift giving. The strawberries are heart shaped for starters and the combination of chocolate and berries is awesome. It’s very easy to dip strawberries yourself. See a recipe and tips in this newsletter. Go ahead—take the plunge!
