Why I Love Florida Strawberries

In anticipation of Valentine’s Day and Fabulous Florida Strawberry Month, we’ve been thinking about the many reasons we love Florida winter strawberries. We’re not exaggerating at all when we pile on the adjectives to describe their color, texture and taste. They are amazingly big, beautiful, luscious, delicious, succulent, delectable and mouthwatering!

What’s even more incredible is that these scrumptious, sweet strawberries are also healthy! So with that in mind, this month’s newsletter will explore the many benefits of eating strawberries and provide you with some healthy recipes that feature the ruby red treats.

Packed with antioxidants and fiber, strawberries are a super food that not only contributes to heart health, but also provides diabetics and others who want to cut carbs with one of the best vitamin-packed, low glycemic fruit options.

According to the website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, increasing our intake of fruits and vegetables is critical to promoting good health. Because these foods are lower in calories and full of vitamins, minerals and fiber, experts suggest eating five to nine servings daily. Making strawberries one of your fruit choices is easy. They can be incorporated into any meal and make the perfect snack.

Perhaps our focus on our marvelous winter strawberries and a healthy lifestyle will encourage you to try some for yourself and share the love for them and possibly your own recipes with your readers and us.

Don’t wait too long to get your hands on Florida winter strawberries. Enjoy the berries with your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day, or celebrate Fabulous Florida Strawberry Month in February and see just how many ways you can use them. We will be helping weathercasters and news anchors get in on the delicious fun by sending out baskets of our berries to TV stations throughout the East Coast. Watch your local stations to see if you can glimpse the news crews talking about and sampling these red, winter jewels of sweetness!

Remember that our season runs November through early April, and we ship fresh from our fields to locations east of the Mississippi and from Florida north through parts of Canada.
