Audra Wahhab

Meet Audra Wahhab, a performer who uses her tiny New York City kitchen, between auditions and gigs, to de-stress her life by baking.

Hailing from Wisconsin, Audra learned much of what she knows about food and cooking from her parents. While her father was running a restaurant and catering company, her mother could always be found in the kitchen, whipping up something delicious.

It was only February that Audra started her food blog, The Baker Chick. Originally the blog was simply a way to be creative and commit to working on something during the “slow seasons.” It also served as a way to document her progress as a baker. For us, it provided an easy way to get our hands on some of her favorite recipes.

While surfing interesting food blogs recently, Audra’s recipe for Strawberry Lemonade Bars grabbed my eye. We connected online and she was enthusiastic about sharing her recipe and some of the reasons she loves strawberries.

I love strawberries. Whether on cereal, in smoothies, over ice cream, in a pie, or right out of the carton, there’s just something about the sweet taste of strawberries that has made them one of my favorite foods. I really think if I could choose one flavor of ice cream for life it would be strawberry. It could be the pink-loving girl nature in me, but I think it’s because I know a simply delicious food when I taste it.

I adored using fresh strawberries in my baking adventures this year. One of my all-time favorite treats are Strawberry-Rhubarb Oat Bars. Healthy enough for breakfast, a snack or dessert—I eat them for all three occasions!

One of the things that sticks out on Audra blog, beyond her delicious recipes, is her photography. Audra started out knowing nothing about what made the food in photos appetizing. She set out to learn by studying the successes of other blogs and spending hour after hour researching the process. Nine months later her hard work paid off. Each and every shot taken with her Canon Rebel XTi and 85mm f1.8 lens is stunning.

For me, food photography has been a learning process for sure. I am still learning and will never tire of trying new techniques and appreciating the great work of so many talented food photographers!

You can check out Audra’s fabulous food photography and delicious recipes on her blog, The Baker Chick. Don’t forget to follow her on Twitter and become a fan of her Facebook page.
